Honey-Lemon and Ginger Tea Origin
My husband is one of those naturally super-healthy people. When he craves a nighttime snack he will only grab a small handful of nuts and then be done. Any time I watch him, he just seems to tend towards those things that nourish him and make him feel great. Enter Soothing Honey-Lemon and Ginger Tea Mixture. I always make this nourishing concoction in preparation for cold weather and flu season. You never know when you’re gonna need/want it. Well, I served it to Graham after he complained of a sore throat, and that was the beginning of the end. If he feels even a sniffle coming on, he asks for the tea! Luckily, I always have some in my refrigerator because it’s easy to make and lasts a long time!

What Does It Taste Like?
This tea mix tastes just like the hot lemon/honey water that you might make yourself any time you need a nighttime warmup drink. But our version is even better (tasting and for you) and easier to throw together. Not to mention much cheaper! It has the slight sour nature from the lemon and the soothing tones of honey to coat your throat and make you feel oh-so-good. It also has a nice snap from the fresh ginger…and if you’re feeling super zestful, you can always add a dash of cinnamon.

Why is This Tea Easier/Better than Tea from a Store?
A lot of the health benefits in tea come from the time that you spend steeping the tea bags. This tea is ‘pre-steeped’ so to speak. When you add all of the ingredients together, you let them sit in your refrigerator so that they meld together. You will notice, after 24 hours, the lemon and ginger release their natural juices (and healing powers) and make the top portion of the honey more liquid and heavily steeped in everything that heals you. The thicker honey portion is in the bottom. The best way to enjoy this tea and get maximum benefits is to take 1-2Tbsp from the top of the mixture and then 1-2Tbsp from the bottom honey. Mix it all with hot water, and enjoy! It comes together in seconds!

Tips and Tricks for Making Soothing Honey-Lemon and Ginger Tea Mixture
- Here is a video on how to peel ginger with a spoon! It makes it so easy.
- The amount of ginger/lemon and honey can vary if you want to make a larger or smaller amount. You can eyeball this fairly easily – there isn’t a right or wrong way. I would suggest making a SMALLER amount to start and see how fast you use it as the mixture will eventually go bad.
- Check out benefits of honey in the link above. It has suggestions for various types of honey to help with whatever you are trying to fix!
- I don’t measure my honey, just squeeze it straight into the mason jar as to avoid using an additional dish. You can always use a spoon to move the honey and ginger around so that the honey seeps in quicker!
- Wrap this with a pretty bow and give it to a friend. Anyone would appreciate this as a beautiful homemade kitchen gift. A bonus: it’s so healthy and tasty! People will appreciate getting something that will make them feel better.

It’s so comforting and delicious. At our house it doesn’t last long as everyone wants it.
